# How to Create a Touchpoint

A **touchpoint** is the way you reach the customer — sometimes the place the action happened — through which the action takes place. A website, a store, or a social network, for example.

Touchpoints can be grouped, or classified, using channels. For more on those, see [how to add](/customers-orders-and-products/actions/channels-and-touchpoints/channels/how-to-create-a-channel) and [how to import](/import-data/references/how-to-import-channels) channels.

You can add touchpoints one at a time through the interface, following this article, or [import them in bulk from a CSV file](/import-data/references/how-to-import-touchpoints).

## How to add a touchpoint through the interface

**1. Go to Settings → Customers and actions → Touchpoints**

**2. Click Add**

**3. Fill in the fields**

* **Name** — the name you'll use to find the touchpoint in filters.
* **System name** — how the touchpoint is stored in the account's database.
* **External ID** — how the touchpoint is passed in operation calls, imports, and services.
* **System touchpoint** — marks the touchpoint as undeletable.
* **Channel** — matters for search and reports, so pick one that fits your setup.
* **Used for** — reference information for you, so it's clear what the touchpoint was created for.

**4. Click Add**

You'll see a confirmation that the touchpoint was added.
